Pittsburgh is a tight-knit town, and the sudden death of rapper Mac Miller sent shockwaves through the music community here and around the world.
Steelers running back James Conner is among those mourning the Point Breeze native, and he found a unique way to do it.
Conner, an Erie native who played at the University of Pittsburgh, tweeted several photos of a custom-made pair of cleats honoring Miller, whose real name was Malcolm McCormick and who died last week of a suspected overdose at age 26.
The tweet simply read, "Thank you Mac," with emojis of praying hands and a teardrop.
A North Carolina couple whose wedding was rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence have made sure their flowers won’t go to waste.
The couple, along with their florist, donated the floral arrangements to patients at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute in Concord, WSOC reported.
As each patient finished their chemotherapy or infusion treatment, they were given their pick of the arrangements.
“Anytime anyone does anything nice for someone who’s going through cancer, it’s wonderful,” said patient Patricia Riser. “And flowers, of course, are just great. And everybody, everybody loves flowers, and I love flowers, too.”
Riser sent her thanks to the couple.
“I think it’s wonderful that you thought enough of someone else, especially during this time that you’re going through because you had to cancel your wedding, that you were thoughtful enough to think of someone else. It’s just amazing that people can do that when they’re going through things too, and we learned that not only are we going through something but other people go through things, too,” Riser said.
Atrium Health’s Laura Blackwell called it a bright spot for patients, WSOC reported.
“The patients were thrilled when they saw all the beautiful flowers being brought in. We’re happy to know that they were going to (be) able to get those flowers when they left today from their infusion,” she said.
While North Carolina remains under the cloud of now-Tropical Storm Florence, the patients who took home those fresh flowers will have a reminder that there are good things in the world.
“To think they would be so generous that they would want to contribute to the community and be so concerned about the joy of people they didn’t know is pretty special,” Blackwell said. “That doesn’t happen very often and it’s always a blessing to be able to see that.”
A reporter for a North Carolina television station interrupted a Facebook Live video to rescue a dog in knee-deep floodwaters, CNN reported.
Wilson can be heard asking the woman, who said her name was Tasha, “"Do you think that is safe?"
"It's my daughter's therapy dog. I have no choice," the woman said.
Wilson continued to report during her live feed but stopped when she saw Tasha having trouble moving the dog, WTVD reported.
"Can we pick this one up?" Wilson asks in the video, handing the camera to Tasha while picking up the dog.
"You are OK baby girl," Wilson said to the dog as she carried her to safety, WTVD reported. "Nobody is leaving the dog in this mess. That's what we are doing out here."

The restaurant, located at 1622 Church Street, will open Oct. 17.

Ariana Grande is commenting for the first time on her friend and ex-boyfriend Mac Miller since his death on Sept. 7.
In a Friday Instagram post, the singer, who has turned comments off on her page since Miller’s death, expresses disbelief that he’s gone.
“I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will,” Grande wrote. “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times. I’m so mad, I’m so sad I don’t know what to do. You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else. I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you’re okay now. Rest.”
The caption accompanies a video post of Miller in a black hoodie that contains the phrase “Everything will be OK” in a small white font across the front.
In the video, Miller starts to tell a story but stops and laughs with Grande when he realizes she’s recording him.
Miller was found dead in his California home at age 26. He and Grande dated for nearly two years before breaking up in May. Grande has since gotten engaged to Pete Davidson.
Grande had previously spoken publicly about her efforts to be there for Miller and support him in his sobriety. Miller frequently rapped about his struggles with drugs.
An official cause of death has not been announced.

Two months after getting engaged Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin were seen getting their marriage license.
TMZ appeared to capture photos of the two walking hand-in-hand to the New York City Marriage Bureau. According to the gossip site, Bieber was emotional inside the bureau, telling Baldwin, “I can’t wait to marry you, baby.”
People reported that it has confirmed that the 24-year-old singer and 21-year-old model married Thursday in New York City at a courthouse. The publication, citing a unnamed “religious source,” said the two will have a ceremony soon.
“They’re going to have a big blowout, in front of God and everyone they love,” the source told People.
TMZ didn’t confirm the two are married, only that they were in the courthouse, where marriage licenses are issued. The site later reported they could get married as early as next week in a small ceremony.
“Entertainment Tonight” reported that the couple entered the building in a back office to be discreet, but it appears photos still caught them.
Baldwin recently told The Cut her wedding will be small and preferably on the West Coast.
Marriage licenses in New York are valid 24 hours after being issued until 60 calendar days from that date, meaning Baldwin and Bieber could get married between Friday and Nov. 13.
Baldwin took to Twitter to make it clear her marital status hasn’t changed.
“I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet!” she wrote Friday.
The tweet has since been deleted.
“Blue’s Clues” is coming back to Nickelodeon for a new generation, but this time there’s a new host and title.
Nickelodeon announced that “Blue’s Clues & You” will start production in Toronto this month with host Joshua Dela Cruz, who comes from Broadway. Original “Blue’s Clues” host Steve Burns helped in the search for the newcomer.
“I had the great honor of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up,” Burns said in a statement. “He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt.”
“Blue’s Clues” first aired on Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. programming block in September 1996 and ran for six seasons, drawing critical acclaim along the way. It is one of the most popular children’s shows from the network. It’s available on NOGGIN, the network’s video subscription service for preschoolers.
Like the original series, “Blue’s Clues & You” will follow animated puppy Blue and a live action host solving a daily puzzle based on clues marked by a paw print.
Dela Cruz isn’t completely new to TV. Variety reported that in addition to appearing in “Disney's Aladdin,” on Broadway, he’s had scenes on the CBS series “Bull” and the ABC series “Time After Time.”
“The search for the new host of ‘Blue’s Clues & You’ was no small task, but we knew as soon as we met Josh that he was the perfect choice,” Shelly Sumpter Gillyard, executive vice president, Talent, Music and Events, Nickelodeon Group, said in a statement. “From his genuineness to his comedic timing and range, there was no doubt that he could carry the show on for the next generation of preschoolers.”
“From the moment we decided to make a new version of the series, we knew that so much of the energy and magic of the show comes from the host’s ability to bring preschoolers into the colorfully animated world of Blue and her friends,” Cathy Galeota, senior vice president, Preschool Content, Nickelodeon Group said. “Josh’s wonderful theater background and his natural charisma checked all the boxes for us, and of course Steve’s stamp of approval only solidified our decision.”
“Blue’s Clues & You” will have 20 episodes. A premiere date has not been set.
A Taco Bell employee’s act of kindness has gone viral after he bought dinner Thursday for a homeless man who had stopped at the restaurant.
A man, apparently homeless, walked out of the restaurant’s bathroom carrying three bags, including one that contained a comforter.
Brandon Stephenson saw the man and asked him to take a seat before buying him something to eat.
Brandon then sat and talked with the man and asked about him. Brandon also told him about himself and that when he was younger, he knew what it was like to go without food.
The homeless man ate, thanked Brandon and asked him about a job. Brandon explained how to apply and that if he did not have a computer, there were some at the library.
"My grandma Kelly raised me to do that and I think people should treat people that don't have much better, than they are now. So I try to help people when I can," Brandon told KSNF.
Amanda Vanderford was having dinner at the Taco Bell.
“This is what we need in this world. More people like him,” Vanderford wrote on Facebook. “More people who are kind, not because they have to but because they want to.”
Willie Nelson is performing at a free, public event on behalf of a political candidate for the first time ever in his decades-long career, and some fans are not happy about it.
The announcement comes after Nelson brought O’Rourke, who is running against Republican Ted Cruz for the Senate, onstage during a July 4 show.
“My wife, Annie, and I have met and spoken with Beto, and we share his concern for the direction things are headed,” Nelson said in a statement, according to Rolling Stone. “Beto embodies what is special about Texas, an energy and an integrity that is completely genuine.”
In the past, Nelson has played private benefit shows supporting individual politicians. This public gesture has upset some of the musician's more politically conservative fans.
“Please change your mind on this,” one commenter said on Nelson’s Facebook post announcing the performance. “Long time supporter and listener but don't associate with this man!!!”
“Really thought Willie had more sense than this,” another wrote.
“If thats (sic) true I’m done after 45 years...” another fan commented. “That smoke has finally got you !!”
Other fans said those complaining were ignorant of who they supported.
“Willie ‘fans’ shocked about his politics is the funniest thing I’ve heard today,” one comment read. “You’d have to be a fairly peripheral fan to be surprised by this.”
“I have always known that Willie was a Democrat,” another said. “Even though that is NOT my cup of tea, I do love Willie.”
The performance will be at Auditorium Shores in Austin, Texas. Tickets are free, but attendees will need to RSVP at O’Rourke’s website.
After weeks of speculation, Jemele Hill has confirmed she is leaving ESPN.
“Over the last several weeks, there have been a lot of rumors about my job status. Today is my last day at ESPN,” Hill said in a tweet posted Friday.
“When I started at ESPN in 2006, I had no idea that such a wonderful journey would take place over the next 12 years,” Hill said in a statement included with her tweet. “This was the place where I became the best version of myself, both personally and professionally.
“However, the time has come for me to begin a new chapter in my life.”
Hill went on to thank her co-workers, including “His and Hers” and SportsCenter co-host Michael Smith.
“There are so many people to thank, but it’s worth me singling out a few that were instrumental during my time at ESPN.
“To my friend, brother and former co-host Michael Smith: I love you and you made me better in every possible way. I’m proud of everything we did, because nobody sold tapes out the trunk quite like us.
“And to the rest of my ESPN colleagues: I am humbled and forever grateful to have worked with you. I am in awe of your talents. I’ll always be rooting for you.”
Hill didn’t specify what is next for her, but amid reports of her exit last month, it was speculated that the veteran journalist would move into production.
The Athletic media reporter Richard Deitsch said in August that Hill and her longtime friend, journalist Kelley L. Carter, who writes for ESPN’s The Undefeated, are moving into production with their company Lodge Freeway Media.
Hill mentioned the next phase of her career in an interview with Detroit Metro Times.
“I know that whenever I kick off the next iteration of my career, it will involve me getting more deeply involved in producing original content,” she said in the Aug. 1 interview. “There are avenues opening up for women of color to provide different perspectives. That’s something we really wanted to take a hard look at.”
For some, there is one car that will never compare to all the other vehicles they own.
For Wesley Ryan and his family it was a 1993 Mustang GT he used to ferry around his growing family.
It was called “Christine” after the 1983 Stephen King movie.
But when his wife, and high school sweetheart, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the car had to go once medical bills started piling up, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
“I came home one day. I walked into the garage, looked at her and said it was time for her to go,” Ryan told San Antonio Express-News. “I remember seeing her drive off and I was trying to be the big man and not let it bother me.”
Ryan’s children, who were toddlers when their dad sold his beloved car, never forgot how much the car meant to him.
So years later they did what they could to track down “Christine.”
The found it and the big reveal was captured on video. Ryan was speechless when he saw his precious “Christine” roll up on a trailer. After tears and a few “choice words” of surprise, Ryan walked over to the car to check it out as the song “My Old Man” played in the background. As Ryan walked around his car to take in the sight and greet his old ride, the appropriate line from the Zac Brown Band song played: “I know one day we’ll meet again.”
Ryan told San Antonio Express-News that the car shows “the power and strength of what family can do.”
Ryan and his son plan on working on “Christine” to bring her back to life.
Sia has joined Dolly Parton for a new duet version of her 1971 song “Here I Am.”
The new rendition appears on the soundtrack for the Netflix film “Dumplin’.” Rolling Stone reported that it’s one of six songs that Parton collaborated on with songwriter and producer Linda Perry.
The 1971 original, which appeared on Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” album, has more of a country-pop sound from the decade. The new version is mostly piano driven and replaces fiddles and country instrumentation with a more somber gospel sound.
Sia appears on the second verse of the song, also joining Parton on the chorus.
According to Variety, Perry and Parton revealed at the Music Biz conference in Nashville, Tennessee, that Miranda Lambert and Miley Cyrus are also on the soundtrack, as well as actress Jennifer Aniston, who appears in the film.
Netflix announced it acquired “Dumplin’” Wednesday. It tells the story of Dumplin (Danielle Macdonald), the plus-size teenage daughter of a former beauty queen who signs up for her mother’s pageant in protest, drawing others to follow and rattling a small Texas town. Aniston plays Dumplin’s mother.
The “Dumplin’” soundtrack be released Nov. 30 on Dolly Records/RCA Nashville. Listen to the new rendition of “Here I Am” below.
Although Tamar Braxton chatted about her new boyfriend on “The Wendy Williams Show,” she also revealed she was sexually abused by family members.
In an in-depth interview with the daytime talk show host, Braxton, 41, confronted reports of her walking out of a taping of the OWN reality show “Iyanla Fix My Life.” Braxton appeared on the show -- which is hosted by motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant -- with her sisters, and cleared up her reasoning for making an early exit.
“A lot of things happened in my childhood, I was too afraid to talk about, too ashamed to talk about,” Braxton said. “But the truth of the matter is that, you know, I have been molested. By both sides of my family.
“It’s nothing I’ve ever talked about, and I never thought that I would sit around the table with Iyanla Vanzant, who’s here to talk about me and my sisters and their problems, and to bring that up and sex shame me basically in front of everybody. That’s why I got up and walked out.”
In a video post that included a clip of her new music video for “Prettiest Girl,” Braxton said she only previously told two people -- including her new boyfriend -- about her experience as a victim of sexual abuse.
“I decided to Tell Wendy and the world MY secret, MYSELF that I have been a victim of abuse not once, twice, ten, but multiple times by multiple ‘family members,’” Braxton said. “I’ve never told ANYONE other than Two people in my life and they both have held this close to them. One Being the man that I am with now and EVERY, SINGLE DAY he says I’m so beautiful and my scars makes me even more attractive.
“I felt that because this has happened to me recently, that something HAD to be done about people who DID know and tried to make People embarrassed and ashamed about something that has happened to them!!! I never EVER again want anyone to feel so little and so small or even ashamed about something they had no control over. I wanted to create a space where you can tell your OWN story with out anyone commenting or making you feel ashamed EVER again!! Go to and tell your story and empower yourself starting today! I wanted you to know that no matter how many scars you have... you are the PRETTIEST I love you all so much.”Watch Braxton discuss the meeting with Vanzant and her sisters at the 8:39 mark in the video below.

A South Carolina store owner helped his community before the winds and rains from Hurricane Florence hit the area.
Mike Patel is the owner of Sea Merchants Grocery Store. He wanted to make sure his local customers had what they needed before the storm.
Patel posted on his store’s Facebook page that all meat and frozen food was buy one, get one free. He was going to keep the doors open to the store through early afternoon Wednesday, WECT reported.
“I’m here because of community,” Patel told WECT. “They have helped since I bought (The Sea Merchants). We are not a highway location. I’m not here because of tourists. I’m here because of the community and this is a way to give back.
He also cut prices of water to prepare for the hurricane.
Local residents praised Patel for making supplies affordable as they prepared for potential disaster.
Tamar Braxton has revealed she is “very much” in love with her new boyfriend of three months.
People reported that, while appearing in an in-depth interview on “The Wendy Williams Show,” the singer, who is moving forward with her divorce from her husband of nine years, Vincent Herbert, said her new man lives in Los Angeles.
“He lives in L.A., he’s originally from Nigeria, but he lived here for a while,” she said.
Braxton also shared some personal photos with her Harvard Business School-educated boyfriend on vacation in Jamaica on her Instagram Story.
“I met him at a friend’s birthday party, thank you God, he’s so fine! I can’t take it sometimes. It’s like a whole snack — a Lunchable!” she said.
Although the couple has only been together for a few months, Braxton says, “It feels like forever.”
On the topic of marriage, she said, “Depends on if I’m asked or not.”
Braxton, who has a five-year-old son named Logan with her estranged husband, was more direct when Williams asked about having more children.
“Absolutely! I would love to have some wonderful, beautiful African children for the Lord. Yes!”
Watch Braxton’s interview below:
On Tuesday, a vigil was held at Pittsburgh’s Blue Slide Park, for which Miller named his debut album.
Miller often supported his hometown through his music. A former student at Taylor-Alderdice High School, Miller was a proud Pittsburgher who never forgot where he came from, often talking about home in his songs.
The vigil was organized by Nightfall Records shortly after Miller died.
Officials with the record company said they just wanted to provide a safe space for people to come out and honor an icon in the music industry.
Miller was found dead Friday in his Los Angeles home.
An official cause of death has not been released, The Associated Press reported. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office told the AP that the results of toxicology tests could take weeks or months.
