Houston's On-Line Country ...

Sky Mike

Hi, and welcome to my big, exciting Bio Page! So, I'm from the Country. . . and we like it that way. If you're from a little place where fireworks are legal, and parking is free, we might be related. Zip me an email and tell where you're from. I've been in radio since my wife was 1 yr old. All kinds of stations, small & large. I also used to be a helicopter TV photographer. Got the job because I stepped off an elevator on the wrong floor, and was mistaken for somebody. I also met my wife on an elevator. My home, Tarkington Prairie isn't even a real town. Sadly, it now has a traffic light, for the first time in history. One. Tarkington was a great place to grow up, and I still know tons of people there. I'll bet I'm the only person in Houston's big city radio who: -- * participated in FFA in high school. * grew up with horses. * has a rodeo mom. * knows how to properly stack square bales of hay. We also lived in Pasadena, when I was a little kid, and believe it or not, Pasadena used to be a Hicktown. (search: Gilleys, Urban Cowboy) Everybody had a horse, and it was great. Now, I'm stuck in the big, crazy Galleria. It's like you're not even in Texas here. These Lexus-driving Galleria weenies have to wear a helmet to ride a bicycle. They'd freak out if they saw what we did when we were kids, back in the Sticks-- "ditch skiing" behind 4-wheelers, playing in the dirt, etc. I'm sure they're scared of livestock and guns. Luckily, we hang out around Baytown on weekends, out in the swamps. My wife is from Highlands, and went to Sterling. One secret: I'm OLD. You can't tell, but I'm old enough to remember being a kid riding in the back of a truck, and it was legal. We had no clue what a seatbelt was. I lived before safety mandates and gadgets, so I guess I'm a Survivor. But you should wear your seatbelt. You should also not speed. I learn this every time I take Defensive Driving. As you know, I'm the biggest Who Dat In Houston. GEAUX SAINTS! I got into the Saints, when I had a radio gig in Louisiana in the 80's. (search: Bum Phillips) Rooted for them thru YEARS of losing, so Super Bowl XLIV was extra special. You can chat Saints with me on blackandgold.com. I root for the Astros, and miss the Oilers and the Astrodome. Thank you so much for your kind words.
