The producers and studio behind Rizzoli & Isles have released statements in wake of the news that the show’s star Lee Thompson Young took his own life at the age of 29.
TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles official Twitter account posted: “We’re devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him.”
Young played Detective Barry Frost on the hit TNT show since it premiered in 2010. His character was the partner to Angie Harmon’s title character of homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli. Last week the network announced the police drama had been renewed for a fifth season.
A statement released by TNT, Warner Bros. and Rizzoli & Isles executive producer Janet Tamaro reads, “Everyone at Rizzoli & Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”
Young was also known for his role on NBC’s Friday Night Lights and got his start on the Disney Channel’s first original series The Famous Jett Jackson.
