Anton Yelchin remembered by 'Star Trek' co-stars, loved ones at statue unveiling

Friends, family and co-stars gathered on Sunday to remember the late Anton Yelchin at a statue unveiling at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

The actor died at the age of 27 in June 2016 after he was struck by his own car at his Studio City, California, home.

Zoe Saldana, one of Yelchin’s “Star Trek” co-stars, spoke about his life and legacy at the emotional memorial, saying, “It is a bittersweet moment, because we’re here for Anton, and he’s not here with us.”

“But it alleviates my heart knowing that we’ll keep him alive. We’re going to keep remembering him in the hopes that by practicing all the things he believed in and remembering all the love that he gave us, and all the joy he gave us, we’re able to just keep him here with us,” she said. She also read a chapter about friendship from “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran, according to PEOPLE.

Yelchin’s mother, Irina, also spoke about her son and remembered him as a “beautiful human being.” She dedicated a project to his memory, the Anton Yelchin Foundation, which will help young artists “who face career challenges due to debilitating disease or disability.”

“We want to keep Anton’s spirit, his legacy, alive for many, many years to come,” she said. “After Anton left, there are only a couple of things left to do. A foundation, photography book and sculpture. We accomplish two by today. The Anton Yelchin Foundation and the statue at Hollywood Forever, so he would be surrounded by the people he admired and to be in the middle of the city that he loved so much.”

His statue is located in the Garden of Legends at the cemetery, just steps away from musician Chris Cornell’s memorial.

Jackie Chan says he has everything ready for 'Rush Hour 4' -- except one thing

The last “Rush Hour” film was released a decade ago, but star Jackie Chan is teasing a comeback. In a Thursday appearance on a radio show, Chan said that the script for “Rush Hour 4” is finished and that he’s waiting on his co-star, Chris Tucker, to get on board.

>> Read more trending news

Chan claims that he has been working on the script for seven years and going through drafts and that the crew behind the film finally just agreed on the piece. Chan made it clear that he won’t do the film without Tucker, saying that time is running out for the pair.

“For the last seven years, we've been turning down the script, turning down the script. Yesterday, we just agreed,” Chan said on ‘The Cruz Show’ Thursday. “The script probably at the end of this month will have a second draft and next year, (we'll) probably start. If Chris Tucker agrees ... “It’s about (having the) time to make ... I tell Chris Tucker, ‘Before we get old, please do ‘Rush Hour 4.’”

Tucker has been out of the spotlight for a while. While he was one of the highest-earning actors during the early 2000s, he hasn’t put out anything recently.

In 2012, he appeared in “Silver Linings Playbook,” and he may be on a comeback tour, as he’s also rumored to be appearing in “Last Friday,” which is a follow-up to his 1995 film “Friday.”

The first “Friday” film did incredibly well, scoring $244 million at the box office, and the following sequels each brought in hundreds of millions.

In a 2012 interview with Vulture, Tucker said he was willing to take part in another installment of the “Rush Hour” franchise.

“‘Rush Hour 4,’ we’re looking into it, me and Jackie,” Tucker said at the time. “We’re trying to get it going, so we’re developing something, so hopefully we’ll get something in.”

Netflix to raise price of most popular plan

Popular streaming service Netflix announced Thursday it plans to raise the price of its most popular plan.

>> Read more trending news

The price of the plan will increase by 10 percent -- or $1 -- from $9.99 to $10.99. This is the first time the company has increased prices in two years, USA Today reported.

Netflix’s most popular plan allows subscribers to view content simultaneously on two interconnected devices. A different premium plan, which allows users to view content simultaneously on four different screens, will increase 17 percent in price -- or $2 -- from $11.99 to $13.99.

According to The Associated Press, the price hikes will affect nearly 53 million Netflix subscribers.

The change in prices comes as Netflix seeks higher profits and aims to secure funding for critically acclaimed shows, like “Orange Is The New Black” and “House of Cards,” and as it competes against rivals Amazon and Hulu, among others, to secure rights to shows and movies, the AP reported.

A Netflix representative said the company will email subscribers and send out app notifications on or after Oct. 19, 30 days before their billing cycles. Users will have 30 days to accept the new rate, change their plans or cancel the service.

There will be no change in price to Netflix’s basic plan, which allows users to view content on one screen for $7.99 monthly.

Maria’s 155-mph winds ripped trees from the ground, tore roofs from buildings, and caused massive flooding.

Lopez, 48, is one of several celebrities with ties to Puerto Rico. She was born in the Bronx, New York to Puerto Rican parents. She is making pleas for donations to help residents recover from the hurricane.

Ricky Martin, Daddy Yankee, Marc Anthony and Rosie Perez are also making appeals, People reported, using their star power to help raise awareness and money for Puerto Rico.

“What’s on my mind is what’s going on in Puerto Rico. The devastation is beyond belief,” Lopez said in an Instagram post. “Me and my cousin still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there.

“What’s foremost on my mind and many others is trying to figure out the best way to help,” she said. “Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Areizaga. Together we can help rebuild our island, and the Caribbean.”

Martin, who was born in San Juan, posted a similar plea for help on Instagram, People reported. Puerto Rico’s capital city was hit hard by the hurricane.

“Puerto Rico needs you at the moment. Just go to youcaring.com/rickymartin and help us,” Martin said in an emotional video. “Donate whatever you can, just one dollar would make a difference. If everyone would give me a dollar, my goodness. Puerto Rico is in a precarious position at the moment. We can’t do it alone. We need you.”

As of early Saturday, Martin’s site alone had raised more than $228,000.

Tom Cruise partially at fault for two pilots' deaths, families say

Tom Cruise is partially to blame for the 2015 plane crash that killed two men during the filming of the action movie “American Made,” the families of the deceased say.

>> Read more trending news

According to new court documents obtained by The Blast and provided to People magazine, the estates of Alan Purwin and Carlos Berl claim that Cruise and director Doug Liman’s desire to film a “high-risk, action-packed motion picture” contributed to the circumstances that led to the accident.

A twin-engine Piper Smith Aerostar 600 carrying three of the pilots helping with the movie crashed in the mountains. Purwin and Berl died on the scene, and the third pilot, Jimmy Lee Garland, lost feeling in the lower half of his body.

“The demands of filming in Colombia, together with Cruise’s and director Doug Liman’s enthusiasm for multiple takes of lavish flying sequences, added hours to every filming day and added days to the schedule,” the documents state.

The families of Purwin and Berl are both suing the producers of Imagine Entertainment, Vendian Entertainment and Cross Creek Pictures for wrongful death and damages, People magazine reported.

“Lapses in planning, coordinating, scheduling and flight safety that were the defendants’ responsibility resulted in an unqualified and unprepared pilot being pressed into service for a dangerous flight in a vintage aircraft across an unfamiliar mountain pass in bad weather,” the documents state.

Cruise and Liman are not named as defendants in the lawsuit, but the families say the two men were “negligent” for having the flight go forward, given the conditions of the weather and crew.

The families also claim that Cruise could have piloted the plane himself, arguing that the star is “a well-qualified pilot very familiar with the Aerostar and the routing.”

Officers’ ‘It’-themed photo takes ‘hot cop’ challenge to scary new level

As law enforcement agencies across the country continued to post “hot cop” photos this week in attempts to best one another, one California police department upped its game to a spooky level.

The Lincoln Police Department on Friday posted a photo to Facebook that meshed the “hot cop” challenge started by Gainesville, Florida, officers during Hurricane Irma and the wildly successful big screen version of novelist Stephen King’s “It.”

The photo shows four of its officers standing on a street, one of the officers is reaching down to the pavement. On the asphalt is a line of tasty-looking doughnuts leading to a nearby drainage culvert.

In the culvert is someone dressed as the villain in “It,” Pennywise the Clown. Nearby floats one of Pennywise’s trademark red balloons.

The photo caption reads, “Ok, Gainesville had the ‘hot cops’ and Loudon had the ‘cop on a bucket,’ so the Lincoln (CA) Police Department decided to join the fun.”

“Clown: ‘Hey guys, I have donuts down here!’”

As the officer reaches for the first in the line of doughnuts, a colleague tries to pull him to clown-free safety.

As of Wednesday, the photo had been shared nearly 200,000 times and garnered about 171,000 reactions, all positive. The image also earned some jokes from commenters.

“But, like, is the clown hot?” one woman asked.

“Looks like a trap,” another commenter said.

“With sprinkles!” one man added.

“But why did they put perfectly good donuts on the ground?” another woman asked.

“Donut go down there!” one commenter warned.

The photo from the Lincoln police officers is the latest in a string of pictures challenging a selfie posted by Gainesville officers earlier this month as they prepared for a 12-hour shift at the height of Hurricane Irma. The photo, posted on Facebook, had commenters praising the officers’ looks and offering to be arrested to get closer to the men.

The Gainesville photo was removed from Facebook after one of the officers, Officer Michael Hamill, came under fire for alleged anti-Semitic posts on his personal Facebook page. He has been suspended while the department investigates the claims.

In the days since the Gainesville photo went viral, however, departments across the country have offered their own photos of their finest. On Tuesday, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office in southeast Louisiana posted a photo of their finest looking K-9 officers.

“K-9s Hoss, Baretta and Mako wanted in on the #HotCop competition, but they hope to start a new hashtag: #HotDogs!” the caption read.

In another post, Loudon, Tennessee, police officers pose for the camera. One particularly short officer stands on a bucket.

“Loudon Police Department Adam Squad. We ain’t pretty, but we get the job done,” the post reads.

The challenge has become so popular since the post by the Gainesville officers that it has spawned a Facebook page of its own, Hot Cop Challenge. The page had just over 1,000 followers as of Wednesday.

Jennifer Lawrence responds to critics after movie gets 'F' grade

Jennifer Lawrence is typically a box-office draw, but not even she could save “Mother!”

The Darren Aronofsky film received a rare F grade from CinemaScore and bombed at the box office, earning just $7.5 million in its opening weekend. That makes it Lawrence’s worst box office performance for a wide release, according to Rare.us.

But when asked by “Entertainment Weekly” about the lackluster response to “Mother!” the Academy Award-winning actress said:

“The people who love it, love it and want to see it another time. The people who don’t like it, absolutely despise it ... There is no middle ground. We knew that it was divided. That’s what’s so exciting -- everybody is going to feel something. It’s going to create a conversation. It’s going to create a controversy. Nobody is going to leave not getting something from it.”

Paramount Pictures, which distributed “Mother!” released an official statement that called the film “very audacious and brave.”

Popular movie critic site Rotten Tomatoes awarded the film a rating of 68 percent out of 100.

“There's no denying that ‘Mother!’ is the thought-provoking product of a singularly ambitious artistic vision, though it may be too unwieldy for mainstream tastes,” the Rotten Tomatoes critic consensus reads.

Twitter users were divided about the movie.

'Deadpool 2' stuntwoman killed on set was first black woman road racer

Joi “SJ” Harris, known as the first African-American woman road racer, died on the Vancouver set of “Deadpool 2” after a motorcycle crash.

The pioneer grew up in Brooklyn but didn’t catch wind of the motorcycle racing industry until adulthood.

>> Joi ‘SJ’ Harris identified as ‘Deadpool 2’ stuntwoman who died after motorcycle crash on set

Determined to learn how to ride, she headed to New Jersey Motorsports Park, a track three hours away from her home, to figure out the basics. That was in 2009, and just five years later, she was licensed and gearing up for her first race.

However, it didn’t come without its challenges.

“I am everything people never saw in this sport,” she told Black Girls Ride. “I was alone for most of the [first] day, scared and in tears. I had no one to talk to, and I didn’t know what I needed.”

>> Ryan Reynolds speaks out after stuntwoman dies on set of ‘Deadpool 2’

But pretty soon, she found her footing, accumulating a slew of sponsors and earning the nickname “SJ Sidewayz.”

Billing herself as “the first licensed African-American woman in U.S. history to actively compete in sanctioned motorcycle road racing events,” she was an incredible competitor. She participated in races such as the GP Moto Cup and the Championship Cup Series, where she placed first earlier this year.

A medical professional by day, she didn’t keep her secrets of success to herself. Harris aimed to shed light on the field at conferences and expositions so more women of color could learn about it.

“Sisters on the track are few and far in between. I want to show them that there’s more for them to be exposed to. I want to get the kids interested through experience,” she told Black Girls Ride.

She was excited for the opportunity to do just that when she got the call from the producers of “Deadpool 2.” She was hired to be a stuntwoman for Zazie Beetz, known for playing Vanessa on FX’s “Atlanta.” It was her first movie job.

"The opportunity of a lifetime came along. We had just booked her on the film, and was sworn to secrecy, and then she was off to Canada to make her mark on the world,” Porshce Taylor, one of her friends, said in a Facebook post

She died while performing a stunt, which she had done successfully four times prior, when she went airborne and crashed through the glass of a building.

Since her death, fans and colleagues have paid tribute to the star through social media, including “Deadpool 2” star Ryan Reynolds.
